Thomasville City Schools will be closed for students on Friday, May 1, 2026, in response to the North Carolina Association of Educators (NCAE) “Day of Action” rally scheduled in Raleigh. District leaders cited anticipated staff shortages as the primary reason for the closure, noting that a significant number of staff have requested leave to participate in the statewide protest.
As a result, May 1 will now be designated as an optional teacher workday, and there will be no school for students.
