Pre-Kindergarten Programs
Early Learning - Pre-Kindergarten
Thomasville City Schools’ Pre-K Program is designed to ensure children are prepared for success in Kindergarten by providing child-centered, developmentally appropriate curriculum and experiences to children age 4. Four year old children who have a completed application and have been identified through a screening process, will participate in a full day program which is free of charge for families. The program is funded through Title I federal funds and NC Pre-K state funds. Transportation and/or extended care options are not offered by TCS.
Pre-K Enrollment Requirements
Children must meet the following criteria to be enrolled in the preschool program:

Classroom Activities and Curriculum
The NCPK program at Thomasville Primary uses the Creative Curriculum, which aligns with Foundations: NC Early Learning Standards. Our philosophy is based on Developmentally Appropriate Practices for pre-k children. This includes an emphasis on all areas of development:
Language Development – Students will improve expressive and receptive language skills.
Cognitive Development – Students will be exposed to math, literacy and writing concepts.
Social/emotional Skills – Students learn how to interact appropriately in a variety of learning centers as they share and play cooperatively with peers.
Physical Development – Students will improve gross and fine motor skills in a variety of movement activities.
Exceptional Children's Pre-K Services
The Exceptional Children's Pre-K Program provides special education and related services to children as outlined by the child's Individual Education Program (IEP). Children can be eligible for these services beginning at age 3. The services can be provided in a variety of settings depending on the child's special educational needs. The EC Pre-K program has a special education teacher, speech therapists, occupational therapist, and a physical therapist that provide special education to children community programs (i.e, Daycares, Head Start) and TCS Pre-K special education class.
